I Did This Everyday for 200+ Days, What’s Stopping You?

A few years ago, I decided that every year I would tackle a goal that I wanted to accomplish and be intentional about how I spend my days and my time. Every year since, I have committed myself to doing something consistently for at least 100 days.

This idea stemmed from a TikTok video I actually saw and it had audio attached of Kevin Hart talking about the importance of consistency. The girl in the video was sharing her journaling journey. She had been journaling every day for 100 days. When I saw this, I knew that I needed to write more. I needed to put myself out there more.

Since then I have done a few crazy things every year:

  • In 2020, I went outside every day for at least 100 days and I journaled, read or anything I could think of.
  • For 2021, I wrote a blog post every day, published it and shared it on social media
  • Now this one would be a shock to my younger self because I avoided it at all costs. In 2022, I studied Spanish for at least 100 days (excluding a Beginner Spanish course I had to take for my major). I am happy to say I am still studying Spanish to this day and I’m now over 500 days in!
  • In 2023, I planned and plotted for a writing project for 100 days! I love how most is somehow still related to my writing.
  • What’s the plan for 2024, you’ll find out soon enough!

The fact that you’re reading this blog is because you maybe want to have a similar story to mine right? Life is really fast paced and if you don’t take the time to quiet your mind, you realise how you’re just existing without achieving. I know you have potential and goals. You want to be better than how you were yesterday and so I am here to help, practically of course.

I don’t want you to be like I was, I lived life on pause for a very long time; I wanted to wait until my hair was DONE before I went to any event. I only went if I had the perfect outfit. I didn’t go to events because I had a breakout or I wasn’t “ready”. I was always playing it too safe and dreaming of the “one day” that would come and when those opportunities came, I didn’t really take it.

So I challenge you!

What is something you always wanted to do and know you need to work on for at least 100 days to not only build the discipline and habit, but also increase your passion and improve your talent?

Reminder, 100 days will pass regardless of if you do this or not.

This Is What You Should Do

  • Find Your Goal & Set a date
    • This can look like writing a major list of things you want to be doing every single day but you don’t want to overwhelm yourself by doing them all at once.
    • After picking the one you’d want to accomplish first, or the one that will help you achieve goals in the future, set a realistic number. scale, or how success in this skill would look. Eg. I want to write 750 words every day.
    • Here’s a tip: Start the day you finish reading this blog (regardless of the time you read this). Start the planning.
  • Plan
    • New habits don’t have to start at the beginning of the year. You have new months, new weeks, and a new day. You don’t have to wait on an even number or start a new thing (I know I just called out somebody!). Just start.
    • Write down how you’d want to accomplish that big goal. Let’s say you want to work towards having a podcast launched by the end of the year. You’d have to research to find out all the ways you can plan before the launch day arrives. From brainstorming episodes, to guest hosts, equipment and studio booking, recording decisions, etc.
    • Here’s a tip: if you want to really focus on this, leave your phone in another room, do it early or first thing in the morning, the day will get hectic regardless, so just get the goal done first thing! And don’t think too hard on having every possible thing together, you will learn as you go along.
  • Have someone hold you accountable
    • You can keep yourself accountable; this is something that you want more than anyone else. Your dream will look crazy to others because they have never seen you do it before or they would never think about doing it. I had people who looked at me ridiculously because I was publishing a blog post every day for over 200 days. And although initially my goal was not made public, I knew I had to keep my promise to myself. If you show yourself (your brain) that you are committed to work on your skill every day, you will see how serious you are about doing that. So even if you doubt that you can do this, set this goal and prove to yourself that you really want this dream.
    • Freely talk about how much this goal excites you. You can write it in your journal, send voice messages to yourself, or an accountability partner who will ask about it occasionally or remind you to keep going. Don’t depend too much on this as people are still trying to live their own lives, you want to be able to do this every day if no one is watching you.
    • Keep focused on the goal you have and why you want to accomplish it. I wanted to blog every day to improve on my writing, it ended up giving me unheard of opportunities. It built my discipline over my motivation, increased my passion and after that consistency, I realised how much I really love writing. This has nothing to do with those who have similar goals and abilities as you. If you think too hard about their accomplishments, think of how much time was wasted when you could have been tuning your guitar or finishing another script.
  • Conclusion

I want to commit to whoever is serious in any way so you can do the best in committing to something for 100 days in 2024. Do you want to write newsletters every day, post a TikTok three days per week, start a masterclass on a skill you’re highly qualified for? Let’s get to it!

I made a Discord channel for this challenge so we can discuss how we can keep each other accountable, share resources and everything in between.
