Before we begin, today is Jamaica’s Independence Day and so I’m dedicating this blog to my country and it’s 59th year of Independence!!

Jamaica Gained Independence from Britain on August 6th, 1962.
DID YOU KNOW?

It has actually been a while since I’ve added any blogs to my GRATITUDE JOURNAL but today all of that changes.
I never realised how much of a flower girl I was until very recently. Not as gifts in vases, but more like seeing them grow and blossom.
HIBISCUS

So I knew about this flower for years, I grew up with this at home, and we even still have a lot. I think one of the reasons I absolutely love the hibiscus was because of the fun that I had with them when I was younger. When it came to summertime and having fun outside, my sisters, neighbour and I used to make perfumes, food, and everything in between with this flower.
I can’t believe it took me researching about this flower to find out that it is actually considered edible. I actually even watched a video this week on, “Things You Didn’t Know Were Edible” so I was not expecting this revelation at all. I thought that video taught me enough.
CROWN-OF-THORNS

So I found out that there are a few more names to this plant including Christ Thorn. I maybe should have taken a picture of the ones from my grandmother’s garden because she would have been really happy but that’s another reason that I even know this plant exists.
West Indian Jasmine

Now I personally don’t think I could have been any more Caribbean without sharing this plant. I think almost everywhere that I go in Jamaica I see this plant. This beloved flower also had another name, and that is the “Red Ixora”. I don’t recall ever seeing any other colours of this, but when I was checking online, I did see a few more colours and I personally, love them.
When we were younger we used to make necklaces with them and we tried really hard for them not to break. At that time in our lives especially, I don’t think we really realised how much we should appreciate just those things around us.
Now that I’ve shared some of my most beloved flowers, I want to hear from you. What are the flowers in your country that you enjoy and what’s the story behind them. Were you ever gifted a flower by a stranger? I think we should be doing that more often because you never know who may be having a bad day.
