There was a sermon that I watched in part with my devotions and I wanted to wait until a bit later to share what I learnt but then I got really excited and needed to talk about it with someone.
The topic is actually PRIDE. And I know that by the title alone, so many people are already thinking, “I don’t need to learn about pride, I don’t have a spec of pride in me”. But, you’d be surprised to know how much we all have in us. From how we think of ourselves and how we think of others, we all have pride.
I wanted to switch it up a bit and share some photos to give you guys a more visual idea as well, so let’s learn more about pride.

There is sinful pride and pride that is not sinful. Let’s see the difference.

There are Three Types of Pride
1. I’m Better Than You Pride
Example: Pharisee looking down on the tax collector and saying, “Thank God I’m not you.”
Example 2: Peter denying Jesus three times.
- Your failures are not to big for God’s grace.
- Singles: Sometimes our expectations are so high that we expect PERFECT but if we do that we will wait an eternity and have nothing.
2. I Can Handle It Pride
This is pride that you have in yourself.
People like this barley pray and when they do it is mostly predictive, faithless and flat.
Your lack of prayer is declaring that you don’t need God.
Example: Adam and Eve fell into the PRIDE CYCLE…

“Pretend to be okay” and act like we can handle it so we cover it up.
3. It Doesn’t Apply To Me Pride
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 16:18
Example: David didn’t go to war and then he saw what he wasn’t suppose to see, and ended up doing what he wasn’t supposed to do.
Status without accountability is the breeding ground for pride.
Pastor Craig Roeschel
Q. Is there any area of your life that you have a sin that you rationalize or pretend you’re above the rules?
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5-6
The opposite of pride is to get down on your face and in humility.

God says humble yourself, even when it looks awkward and society is telling you to fight for yourself.

When you humble yourself, He will lift you up at the right time in honor.

“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 18:14

This is a great title. We really do need to get over ourselves. Maybe we need someone to tell us at times.
For we do indeed forget that it is not always about us.
