Today we will be focusing on some notes that I did to talk about Self-Growth with a group of young people. It was really intriguing to see where my mind and knowledge was at this time in my life. This was around 2018, and I do hope you enjoy it.
MAIN TEXT:
17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
2 Peter 3:17–18
“Life is growth. If we stop growing, technically and spiritually, we are as good as dead.”
―Morihei Ueshiba
Not only are we all human, but we were all created for a purpose. We are evolving as Christians, so that means it is also important that we take care of our personal development, which can only benefit us in the long run. We cannot be at the same place were last year much less this year. Those around us need to see and adapt traits that include us remembering that there is always more to learn.
We also need to remember that with this comes one truth that I want to make clear. Because your identity is found in Christ, the source of you being more confident is found in Christ. The more you learn about God, you’ll learn how to better treat the body He blessed you with.
1. THE POWER OF WORDS Make it your duty to say affirmations that will carry you throughout the day and keep you in a positive mindset. Not only are words powerful, but it gives you the oppourtunity to spend time with yourself, away from the views of others. This not only will help you declare positivity over your life.
2. ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS Who am I? Who do I want to be? What are my passions? What does Jesus want me to be? Am I living like Christ lifestyle daily? What can I do differently today to impact those around me and my future self? What are my hopes and dreams? Dwell on what God wants for your life and work with that.
3. THE BIG PICTURE Self improvement is a process and it doesn’t occur overnight. As you grow and experience things, you’ll learn more and more about yourself and the world around you. Take advantage of that knowledge but do not allow that knowledge to take advantage of you.4. DEFINING WHO YOU ARE You have all the power in defining who you are. Believe that much if nothing else. Choose to define yourself. Recognize that as humans, we are constantly bombarded with instinctual desires, subject to external influences, and emotional instability. These are unfortunate realities, but it is also a fact that you have the power to decide what will actually have power over you. Developing this sort of mental in dependence will save you a lot of heartache. Developing a good self-image will improve many areas of your life: relationships, dealing with failure, stagnation, negative thoughts, and even depression. Equip yourself to face things that contradict your goals. Your mind is the door to your success or your failure. The choice is most certainly your own.5. DROP ANY NEGATIVITY We sometimes cultivate bad perceptions of ourselves without knowing. These negative beliefs come in the form of self-doubt, self-deprecation, and relying too much on external validation. In order to improve your self-image you must work under positive assumptions, ones that empower you. This is fundamental to improving your self-image–in fact, it is vital to your improvement overall as a person. Repeat the following to yourself whenever thoughts of doubt concerning what you have to do creep into your mind.

“People often joke about how they’re unable to make conversation until they’ve had their morning cup of coffee. What if we treated our daily quiet time with the same importance? What if we decided not to speak to anyone until we spend time with our Creator and allow Him to fill us with His Spirit first thing in the morning?”
