My Study Bible called this chapter the “Arostic Poem” and if you don’t know what that means…
In an acrostic poem, the first letter of each line spells a word. The word is the subject of the poem.

And of course, there are different types and we can talk about that at another time.
Today, we are going to insert ourselves in a part of scripture from Psalms. I did this a few weeks back because there were things from this passage that I wanted evident in my life and my descendants.
Something very important about scripture is knowing its power and how it changes things. I would recommend saying these verses aloud until you believe it and until it is actually who you are. The point is not to call out those who are not or who have very little to relate to this verse. Where does that get us? Exactly.
Pray that while you read as well, that there are other things that are revealed that God needs to be evident in your life starting now or reintroduced.

1 Praise the LORD. Blessed are those who fear the LORD, who find great delight in his commands. 2 Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. 4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous. 5 Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.
Psalm 112:1-5 NIV
Let’s Begin
(Please say it verbally, and not just read it)
BLESSED: I Fear the Lord. I find great delight in His commands.
- Then, my children will be blessed because of my relationship with God – mighty in the Land.
– Generation of upright will be blessed.
- “It will show in my house” and will continue forever.
- Even when things seem to be clouding over me, I will still have light (knowledge, peace).
- I am gracious, compassionate and righteous.
- [Put your name here], who is generous, lend freely, and conduct my affairs with justice will have GOOD come to me.
Pray…
Lord, your Word says all of this about me. Starting today, I am asking that you plant these seeds in me. Remove anything in me contradicting your words and I ask that you prepare me to make changes and adjustments in my personality and lifestyle to accommodate the move of you to make me more like what your Word says about me, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Quick Facts
- This is a wisdom psalm contrasting the blessings of teh righteous with the fate of the wicked. Other psalms you can read are 1 & 11.
- The person who holds the Lord in awesome reverence and obeys His commands would receive His blessing (Ps 112:1-9). The righteous person would enjoy descendants to carry on [his] name, prosperity and security.
- In contrast, the punishment of the wicked person is described: he would experience frustration, grief and instability.
