TEA TIME WITH RUTHIE: Studying Proverbs 4

I haven’t done a bible study in a minute and that of course is on my part but I hope you’ll forgive as Christ has forgiven you.

And again, this is just a guide and I want to know as well what you learnt from this passage and how you apply it to your daily life.

Here is what I want for you to do…

1. PRAY. Before reading anything from the bible, ask the Holy Spirit (who I occasionally call HS) to guide and give you insight etc.)

2. Read the chapter twice. First time just for waking up and the second time for understanding.

3. Have your other version to get better understanding.

4. Use one of the applications that I suggested in a previous blog.

5. Write down in your notes or in your bible study book, everything that you do understand and maybe put the questions you have in a section or in another coloured ink. Ask the Lord to direct you to your answers or ask your leaders to assist.

1. Of what benefit is keeping the commandments? (Vs 1-2)

2. What is steadfast love and faithfulness? What does “written in your heart” mean? (Vs 3-4)

3. Trust God in what? (Vs 5)

4. What is one thing that you MUST do when it comes to God? What are 3 things He will do for you? (Vs 5-6)

5. What action benefits your spiritual man? Can you think of any other from other parts of scripture? (Vs7-8)

6. What is harvest? What are some areas that God has blessed you with? (Vs 9-10)

7. What is a characteristic of God that we see in these verses? If this is a struggle for you, how can you go about changing that? (Vs 11-12)

8. What are some things you should live by in verses 15-18? Are there any that you already applied prior to now, and which ones do you struggle with?

9. What is FEAR?

10. What else did you learn about God? (Vs 26)

11. Verses 27-35 speak about other things that we should apply in our daily lives. Think about what you have a difficulty with and how you can best change that. Write our the reasons that God would tell you to do or not do these things. Be specific. Not, “He wants to protect me” but be personal. “He knows that if I do this, …”

EXTRAS

Find out who wrote this, around what time, reason, what was new to you, what Godly characteristic you learnt about, what can you pray and ask God to heal you from as reflected in scripture, who or what do you need to forgive, find definitions of other key words and thank God for His Word revealed and being available to us
