I know, this wasn’t planned either. But I believe that God’s timing is always perfect and of course no on clicks on a blog with this title if they don’t feel they have been distant from the Father.
Now I want us to think about how regardless of how far we walk away, that God still has His arms wide open to receive us again.
Maybe you stopped reading the bible consistently for a few weeks maybe you got to the 3 month mark or you found yourself still doing the bible plans and not even praying anymore.
We know at the beginning of quarantine we all realised that we really had time to spend with God and our priorities just were not as straight as we thought. All of a sudden we had time to spend with God, we had encounters and many of us felt intimate with God in a way that we never have before.
I don’t know about your life but for me personally, I realise that the second I fall off track with a routine or habit, I need to get back to it as quickly as possible or me procrastinating from that very thing becomes a new habit. It’s like I started reading the bible consistently for a year and the one day that I don’t, I’ll not read the bible consistently for a year.
And because of that, I try my hardest to use discipline to influence my actions and not motivation. I don’t wait until I’m motivated to read the word, because that comes by once a year sometimes.
I discipline myself. And eventually reading the word comes so natural to me that I look forward to it throughout the day and not just because of streaks or a routine.
I sometimes call myself out by telling someone that I know will call me out on it, God. I’ll say prayers like, “Lord help me to fight procrastination this week”. You better believe I am gonna have to fight through the week.
I may also say something like, “God please give me the desire to read your word wholeheartedly”. I officially get hooked.
And I know evryone needs their own strategies but I just want to remind you that you cannot afford for your inconsistency to be more consistent than what you need to be consistent at.
You can’t consistently not reading your Bible. You can’t be consistently not praying.
When all is said and done, there really is no excuse. There is always time.
I told some friends the other day that it takes energy and drive to get up and read our bible and pray every day and it takes nothing out of us to watch 13 episodes of our favourite series every day. The only thing we have to do is charge our devices and remember to eat our dinner before our parents have to remind us again.
It takes strength to fight these urges against you getting back on track with God, are you willing to forgive yourself and start over each time so you never feel too far from the Father again?
