TEA TIME WITH RUTHIE: Have Child-Like Faith Like Baby Ruth

Child-like Faith…

Every time I think of that verse a few of my very own experiences come to mind.

There were a few times in my relationship with God, similar to most if not all of us, that I forgot to have faith or I was afraid of putting my faith in God.

Now to some that really might sound ridiculous but after you experience a few people and a have a few disappointments, you begin to treat God based on how others treated you. Agree?

But let’s talk about “Child-like Faith”.

One day when I was around 6 or 7 years old I had a serious predicament…

I could not find one of my Barbie dolls. Stay with me, remember we are thinking like a child right now.

I recall playing with her the entire day before and I of course had to pack up all the dolls in the crate that my sisters and I kept them in.

I cleaned the entire room over and over just to find that one doll and I sat down, tired from using my own vision and memory and decided to pray.

Now mind you, my mom probably would actually be glad that one less doll was in the house (mom if you see this, I forgive you lol) but I needed to find it. She was my best doll.

I just said one line to God, “Please help me find my doll”.

The very next second I walked up to my closet, and there it was, my doll.

I never forgot that moment because it actually was very similar to a story my dad told me when he was younger. I don’t remember the whole thing but dad used to do that a lot. After that day, it became my routine.

I learnt a lot of things that day about God and myself.

At 6, I learnt that God sees where I can’t see. God answers prayers to those who have faith and He cares about the little things.

My energy also can be used until there is nothing left and I won’t find what I’ll need. That was also the day that I realised, when you’re frustrated about finding what you’re looking for, you’ll never find it. But if you come from a child-like standpoint and you really have a tendered attitude, God will direct your paths.

I also learnt to go to God first when I need to find something or just anything at all.

I’m sure to everyone else, it was just a doll, but for me, she was everything and more to me because I got I play dress up, have my tea parties, make clothes for her and the whole bit.

And believe me, I tell this story all the time when I fall off track with faith and I’d say, “I want faith like Baby Ruth again”. You see what I did there?

So whenever you feel like you need some help, ensure that the first person you call, text or Facetime is God. He never has his line on Do Not Disturb. He never is out with his friends and too busy, and He is of course the best partner for a treasure hunt. (I may or may not have learnt from my dad to play domino, cards etc with the Holy Spirit).

Sometimes we just need a one line prayer of faith and run to God to help us find what is outside of our vision.
