GRATITUDE JOURNAL: 5 Random Foods that I’m Grateful For

This is highly unexpected and so bizarre that on a day like today I’m thinking about blogging about food. This year I said I wanted to be so much more observant of the good that happens around me that I created a gratitude journal. Every day I write it in something that happened that changed my day in a good way or things that I know a week from now i would forget happened. Like today for instance I wrote that I took a walk with my sisters, went to the store for my mom, had popcorn and I also watched a movie with my siblings and my dad.

I have officially started another category and I should probably do this once a month, but I’m going to share some things that I am extremely grateful for. I have a friend that every time we have a conversation we say something that we are grateful for. I thought it was such a cool way to see how blessed we really are to be alive and also being able to experience the big and the little things.

Here are 5 foods that I am grateful for:

1. Plantain Tarts

Growing up my mom always bought plantain tarts from this usher at our former church. I fell in love with her making skills and her to be honest. I have never in my life tasted anyone make it better than her and I stand by that. I know, I know, but it is just something about this product that gets me really excited.

2. Lemons

The day I learnt the value of lemons was the day I no longer thought, “Water is Life”. Believe me, lemon changed my perspective on so many things. It is one of those things that I thank God for everytime I think about it. Side Note// It’s okay if you’re saved and didn’t see my Philippians 1:3 reference. God knows your heart.

3. Potatoes

More than a lot of things (can’t say anything because I love a few things more than food) I love potatoes. I’m a potato. *Inserts sound or gif that everyone seems to be obsessed with lol* I’m diverse. Imagine God using you to be so many different things if the right person has access to you. The best chef’s can make the best hash browns, or diced potatoes or even french fries. Wait, lemme pop up with some facts real quick. I researched a little and there are over 80 recipes for potato… uhmm. There is a high possibility I do more research by myself. Lol. But, if God can create one thing that can be prepared (and I say prepared because now we aren’t even talking about the process. The boiling, the peeling, washing, brushing and seasoning) in so many ways. What will He do for the one He died for? I know, that slapped me too.

4. Oranges

Anything citrus, I’m in. Anything with vitamins, I am in. I love oranges. The other day my dad and I were driving (he was driving) and we bought up oranges. It was routine for us up to a few years ago to always buy oranges at the market or this stoplight on our way home. I love the adventure of eating oranges. I also love that orange is a colour and a fruit. I always think of how different life would be if oranges weren’t orange. Or if orange wasn’t oranges. Okay, lol. This is to say, be who you are called to be. Only an orange will be an orange (not me dismissing other foods that are orange) but my point is…a key identifier of an orange is it’s colour. It often is mistaken of course for the colour when people are talking about the fruit. Be who you are on the inside and who you know you are to be.

5. Coconuts

From macaroons to bread, coconut is more than just coconut at this point. I personally am a fan because coconut is not just restricted to nutritional benefits if digested. It is really good for hair growth and skin care. And when I say this I think about how many of us are really clean, spotless on the outside but on the inside, we really need a coconut water washing. We need some “jelly water” to wash off our hearts as it’s said in Jamaica. Hmm.
