GRATITUDE JOURNAL: Songs That Got Us Through 2020

A friend of mine posted in the first week of January the songs that kept him and his friends during 2020 and I thought it was really a great idea for me to just share with you guys some of the songs that kept my friends and I through 2020. This is also a quick shoutout to those friends that sent me songs when I was on their mind. Talk about it !!

Here is a playlist as promised loves and I know you all love to keep things organized. I do hope that this playlist blesses you and your family. Amen.

Disclaimer// Some YouTube links are not available in my country but I still added them so that you could find them on other streaming platforms and of course to facilitate those outside of my region. Thanks for understanding.

Songs That Got Us Through 2020 Playlist

You thought I would just drop the list… and leave?? I really and truly am offended. I cannot believe that you did not expect me to pick a few from the list to talk about. I did protct the identities of all of the individuals.

Disclaimer// I did not put private information up, not even their genders. This obviously is for protective reasons. Their name is not the point regardless so…

Relationship With God

My friend said that during quarantine they were going through a period of self-condemning. They went to a group and there they learnt that Christ didn’t come on Earth to condemn us so since that day, this song has really been ministering in their life. Isn’t that beautiful? Thank you God for revealing to us that you didn’t come on Earth to condemn us but have a relationship with you.

This song helped them hold on to the promises God made. There were times when they felt like God forgot them. Singing this reassured them that He will do what He said. He’s faithful.

This song reminded my friend that they need God because our thoughts and situations can make us feel less than or even literally wear us out. God holds us down.

Come and be God – Kris Dillard. There were times in 2020 when my friend needed God and they couldn’t verbally express how they needed Him; this song did that. It wasn’t a specific thing that they needed they just needed Him.

(Not Available in Jamaica)

My God – J.Monty. This reminded my friend that God loves them in spite of short comings or quirks. He still loves them.

This reminded my friend that it was ok to not be ok. It was also perfectly ok to tell God that they wasn’t ok.

That reminded them that God is always there when they felt alone during quarantine.

Currently my friend’s ringtone. The weird story behind loving this song is depressive times. They were talking to someone liked and they told my friend to remember that song, and it actually cheered my friend up.

My friend bawled to that when they forgot that God was actually in control. It reminded them of His faithfulness.

Emotions

It taught them that God can handle their feelings anger, sadness, etc.

Self Growth in Christ

This reminded my friend that everything God is doing will make me better. He will restore [you] to the version of [you] that He sees when He looks at [you].

My friend learnt this song in the latter days, but it helped none the less. It reminded them of their past mistakes that they forgave themselves for and all the healing they received through forgiving others. The overall growth they’ve experienced throughout 2020.

A song that my friend listened to in their lowest of times.

My friend was kinda lukewarm with their choice in music even though, they didn’t have the songs downloaded they would still listen them on YouTube or whatever. That album helped change that. It gave them a vibe that the secular music that they listened to would, but yk, it’s Jonathan and it’s all about God.

Worshipping God

My friend loved this song as it was a constant reminder that God could turn their dead thing around any minute now and turn it into something beautiful.

My friend chose this song because even though some crazy things happened in 2020, God is intentional.

My friend selected this song because they wanted to thank God for all of the blessings that came in 2020. A lot of awesome things happened in their life.

My friend went through a lot of fights during 2020, and that song reminded them that He’s never lost a battle.

While listening to this song last year, my friend had their very first legit worship session, with God, alone. It was the first time. They don’t know if it’s because they were in the shower, but they could feel His love pouring down.

Encouragement

Lyrics gave my friend hope.

That song hit home. Because my friend easily forget how good He really is. They really forget how much they love Him too.

There’s a part that says “You will create again”. It gives my friend hope. Don’t fear, He will be your song.

“Yo, sis. That hit homeeee. A whole homerun. He’s the well of living water. Writers block, readers block. I just need a drink, and that’s all I need. A refuel. A hunger for Him, before all things can fall into place”.
