Title: ‘The Anarchist’s’ Portrait
Thinking about finally having professional photographs and having the photoshoot of your dreams? What about that birthday or bridal party shoot to post to your virtual albums? Or perhaps you just need to treat yourself to a new canvas in your bedroom and need a photographer that is creative and has good reviews? I’d recommend Clear Elitz and its’ founder Jamar Cleary, who has dreams of connecting with people worldwide through film and photography.
Being raised in a creative household, film student and photographer Jamar Cleary was raised to see the world from a different perspective, and that is seen in his expressive work. Even though his household is filled with writers, Cleary began his path as a photographer professionally in January of 2020. ‘Clear Editz’ first began as a hobby and because of how instinctive it felt to him, the transition into business was natural and he had a community of supporters behind him. After compliments from customers and friends about being willing to purchase his photos, Cleary started selling his canvases online.
Regardless of the seriousness that his face delivers, the man behind the camera considers himself down to Earth and open to conversation. With his majoring in Film Production at the University, Cleary manages his time between work and studying. The Clear Editz photographer sees himself only in the field of filmmaking and his favourite season was summer because of the nature shots. Seeing his business 10 years from now as a staple in the photography community and full production house, Cleary believes it is important for Jamaicans to support local entrepreneurs as “it builds our entrepreneurial community and economy”.
A well-respected individual Jamar would work with is rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z as they similarly share being labelled as “late bloomers” in the industry at the same age. ‘The Anarchist’ photographer said there was a moment that his engagements weren’t meeting his expectations and planned on quitting until a customer reached out and expressed that his work made them happy, which is the reason why he does what he does.
@cleareditz_ on Instagram gives the most interaction from Cleary’s work and one response from a customer from China is that his work “keep them sane and connected to home in Jamaica”. Despite the pandemic, Clear Elitz has managed to adjust to the “new norm” and in the near future will be offering rare special packages from a Jamaican studio. The ‘Clear Editz’ founder shared that his favourite part of being an entrepreneur is being his own boss and being hired to “capture special moments or [his] own ideas”.
His encouragement to individuals who want to start photography is “always take photos” and “take the photos no one else will”. Being inspired by Craig Phang Sang and Benjamin Von Wong, Cleary decided that only one word could capture the essence of his business; culture. Keeping his future open for his biggest opportunities, Cleary shared a skill that his customers would be surprised about is him being a great rock climber.
We look forward to seeing more great work from Clear Elitz, and to contact Cleary, he can be found on Instagram @clearelitz_.
