LIFE LESSONS: Do Not Change

I was in a long conversation with a friend today and she reminded me of a life lesson that we all may have heard before.

Do not change. People around you may be different than you. Don’t let those that are against you change who you naturally are. Some are just here for a season or for a lifetime, but you should not change because of people. All the encounters that you have that seem to affect you, do not change who you are and who God create you to be. Don’t let offence change who you are. Don’t let the voice or opinion of others change who you are. Don’t let their fast growth and your slow growth change who you are. Don’t adjust to move at their pace, that affects you.

A lot of us don’t realise how much time we invest in the opinions of others. For me, I used to not facilitate my dreams to make someone else happy. I used to think that the only way that I’ll be able to keep friends is if I walk with them to buy food or if I always was there when they bought the life changing stuff. I adjusted my liking for others and did so with a smile.

A bible verse that I had to learn and apply to my life was Galatians 1:10 and it says…

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:10 NIV

Because we are believers in Christ we cannot desire the approval of each other. THAT IS NOT SAFE. We cannot depend highly on each other. Something evangelist Myles Munroe taught me is that people change. They will okay today and not tomorrow. Trust no one. Don’t trust that people will stay the same way they did.

If you think about it carefully this logic will naturally cross your mind… if you cannot trust them, how can you depend on them? How can you depend on their approval? You may get it today and not tomorrow. It may be from a place of ruin today and a place of hatred tomorrow.

God is not like man. He doesn’t change; He stays the SAME. I don’t know abiut you but I need at least one person consistent in my life and I know that that person is Jesus.

Now let me give you a little visual here…

God is a God that never goes back on His Word. Let us say you want to start a project and the only person that you want to hear that, “Go ahead you can do it” is from Him. His word in Deuteronomy 31:6 says that He will never leave us nor forsake us. So you already have the security in that He will be behind you. He also says that He will go before you and also make crooked paths straight (Isaiah 45:2). Now chilee… that ain’t even all of it. Psalm 90:17 prays for the favor of the Lord to be upon you and that He will establish the work of your hands. That is like a whole blessing.

God also will be in 100% support of anything that His children do that are according to His purpose. God’s mood won’t switch up on us. His words will not be from a place of bitterness or envy. He also sees the future. Now. I know yall have the best friendships in the world, but I NEEEDDD somebody that knows how my business investment is about to turn out. It’s the little things.

I’m in no way discrediting the relationships we have with our friends, we should cut them some slack and really leave Godly worries and situations to God. Fellowship with our brothers and sisters but leave our mountains to our faith in God, not man. It’s just how we should live.

There is also nothing more tiring I believe than trying to please EVERYONE around you. Imagine if you came in contact with 100 people in your life, by the time you completed your life, you changed for 100 people and you still don’t know who you are, others don’t know who you are and you would have accomplished nothing becuase in the end, someone else was still not pleased with that final product.

I saw a post on TikTok this week and I think this just about sums up how much you change for people and the way the society really flips on you when you try to please everyone.

She adjusted everything to the liking of others yet the judgement and ridicule still was high. Eventually you see that even even stopped trying to fake smile. That is the reality of so many of us. We adjust so much that even our joy and happiness is robbed of us.

There is one message that needs to be shared to those constantly changing for others (lowkey sounds like the title of another blog) and that is…

His plans are unlike man. It never is to harm us.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

We should depend on consistency and someone who stays the same because when we do, we won’t feel the need to constantly change. We have one support who is also our sponsor and our therapist and our motivator and all from a place to AGAPE love and never influenced or exposed to even in the slightest from anything that is not good.
