Pull Over
This story isn’t as long as the one before, but it’s quite short and memorable. It was also with Aunty Jackie in the vehicle, this time, my mom was driving us all home from school and work. Now that a little mental view is set, lets begin.
Some time last year we were in a line of traffic awaiting being checked by the police officers and soldiers, and I think my mother was too caught up in the conversation we were having that she didn’t realise an officer was making an order, she was to STOP…!!!!!
Now the gag is, I cannot even recall the conversation that was so enticing to my mother and all of us. I do however remember the excitement and satisfaction of having the conversation. I may have to ask my sister later about what it was all about, she tends to be the one with the good memory.
Windows Down
Since my mom continued driving after the stop point, an officer directed her to the side, for a few questions I think. A few officers came to us and we were still a bit bubbly and some may have started getting worried. I slowly turned and watched as the traffic continued without us. Now this is where it gets bizarre…
One of the younger policemen asked us why we had about six people in the back of the car. FIRST OF ALL… *inserts black woman clap*. Remember how I told you all that my mom, Aunty Jackie and my two sisters along with me were in the car?? Exactly. At first I really had to look in the back of the car and count us off !! I was like, “Aren’t there like five of us in the car?”
It was one of those days that you really have to wonder if we were having a Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego modern day reprise. It was like, “Angels, you in the convo too? Holy Spirit??” *snickers my way to heaven*
They of course eventually let us go and I can never forget all the thoughts that flooded my mind, for real. Was that Jesus? Holy Spirit? It was a moment, I will never forget. When I randomly think of it, I remember the ‘assurance’ feeling all over again.
Life Lesson
And you know, I was in a Bible Study and learnt about coincidence. (I will post the notes from that soon. *adds it to my list of To-Do-Blogs*) What I did learn is that coincidence, is really not what it is. It sounds more like this…
The word coincidence is translated from the Greek word synkyrian, which is a combination of two words: ‘sun’ and ‘kurios’. Sun means “together with,” and ‘kurios’ means “supreme in authority.” So a biblical definition of coincidence would be “what occurs together by God’s providential arrangement of circumstances.”
bible study notes on Coincidence (the story of jonah)
So in essence, it really isn’t coincidental. God would deem it as something that was divinely orchestrated. Isn’t that interesting? Most, if not all that we experience is for a reason. And, as I thought about it, I was thinking about how our own decisions or response to these experiences can affect the outcome of this very thing that was ‘divinely orchestrated’.
Do you remember the story from my last blog? *stares directly into the screen if you haven’t yet while eating my breadfruit chips*
I could have chosen to take that situation as, “Oh, no big deal. Stuff like that can just happen. It’s not like I matter or anything”. Instead, I saw it as a way of God reminding me of who I am. Also, I’d like to add that this past week God has been reminding me in scripture of all the promises that He has for me, just because I am a child of His. I am His child. I am entitled to everything in His name. And, you know what makes it a whole lot better? I don’t have to wait until something traumatic happens, or after death for me to open my arms. I can just ask. I can enter into His presence without hesitation, because He loves me. He wants me to remember that, “Ruth, I give good gifts”.
I wanted to just put up a few verses that show you that, He has your best interest at heart and all we have to do is ask and live according to His word.
- “And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him“. 1 John 5:15 (ESV)
- “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose“. Romans 8:28 (KJV)
- “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing“. Psalms 34:10 (NLT)
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future“. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
- “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless“. Psalms 84:11 (KJV)
To Close
As I leave you all with these few words, I want us to not look at life as “just something that’s happening” or “my life is too boring and simple for anything good to come from it”. Instead, ask God to show you, remind you, encourage you of the plans that He has for you, because He said that, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…” – James 1:17. Who doesn’t want good and perfect gifts? You deserve it. You can have it.
Thank you guys so much for reading and being as interactive as you are. I really appreciate all the love and support. Please, tell me your stories. Maybe I could place them in a blog post in the near future. Check out my various social media accounts and links to keep interacted and also update me on what you would call your ‘Guardian Angel’ experience.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Also from now on I’ll forget the word coincidence and know that whatever the situation is, it occurred together by God’s providential arrangement of circumstances.
